Picozed supply / obsolete / end of life

wilko_plex
wilko_plex over 1 year ago

With Picozed seemingly marked as out of stock until at least November 2021, I'm worried it is realistically semi end of life.

Can anyone from Avnet comment of the plan for PicoZed hardware supply moving forward? (For reference I've been using 7030-I variant)

I know as open source it is available for individuals to manufacturer, but in small quantities this makes little sense.

Thanks

Yes, looking around it seems the 7000-series devices themselves are in short supply (and likely other SOM BOM items), so probably the driver for distant SOM stock predictions.

    Hi Glenn,

The PicoZed is definitely not EOL.  Avnet, like everyone else it seems lately, has been struck with supply and procurement issues for many of the components it takes to build these SOMs.  Our recommendation is to work with your Avnet salesperson to forecast your needs and get your order(s) in the queue as quickly as you can.  That way when we do have inventory your order will be prioritized.

I'll talk to Avnet to see if there is any further guidance and post back with anything firm I get.

I asked our production team specifically about the AES-Z7PZ-7Z030-SOM-I-G/REV-E. I was told that we have two builds currently scheduled. The first build of 1400 will be used to address backlog. The second build of 1000 does not have backlog against it yet, so I expect that one will put Avnet in an in-stock position sometime mid-summer. These are estimates, given that any number of things could go wrong between now and then, but that's the expectation as of today.

Many thanks Bryan. Good info. I think we are all at the mercy of silicon supply at the moment in some form!

Hi Bryan, we have had orders placed since November last year for this board but have not been able to get any firm delivery dates. Do you know what the current status of the 2nd build is?

The 1400-piece build that I mentioned in early May was delayed. We are looking at a mid-August delivery of that build, although it is not officially committed yet. The 2nd build of 1000 is likely going to be November or December.

If you placed your order last November, then you almost certainly will have your order fulfilled out of that 1400-piece build. You should be able to get this information from your local sales office, but I can sometimes help provide some outside detail. I will private message you for more information.

Given the supply issues permeating the industry, I cannot emphasize enough that it is critical that orders get placed early, as you did. So I congratulate you on that. The current lead-time for any Avnet SOM is 52 weeks, so please work with your local sales team to place orders for any demand that you expect to have over the next 18 months.

    Hi Bryan,

54 wks have passed from our last order but absolute nothing has been delivered to us.

Please do you have any news on AES-Z7PZ-7Z030-SOM-I-G ?

    Hello ftx,

I can confirm that we are still actively building PicoZed. However, the supply issues have gotten even worse since I last reported 9 months ago. We have multiple component suppliers who have 52+ week lead-times, with at least one that is 80 weeks. These are definitely very challenging times.

The 1400-piece build was completed in August as I stated 9 months ago. However, the next 1000-piece build that we hoped to have done by the end of 2021 was slipped due to the previously mentioned issues. Currently, that 1000-piece build is estimated for June 2022. We have an additional 2000 pieces of the PicoZed 7030 that are in process as well, but those are not estimated to ship until 2023.

I apologize for the inconvenience. It is very frustrating to all of us as well.

    Bryan
