Implemtation of AXI without SDK

Hey all,

I'm building a software project without Xilinx SDK. I'm using the ARM DS-5 for building the software. Unfortunately I have some problems implementing the PL there.

When I'm using SDK it is not a problem to connect my IP with AXI to the PS.

Unfortunately if I'm using DS-5 I cannot read the values of my IP registers.

Did anyone already implement some IP using AXI with some different compiler than SDK?
I guess I have to write some special registers first, but I don't find any documentation about this problem.

I hope you understand what I'm trying to say ;-)

    Hi Schlauby,

You will need to make sure that your PL is configured with the Bitstream.

You can do this using USB-JTAG from SDK or using iMPACT tools.

You can also do this from software through the PCAP interface.  An example of this is given within the Fisrt Stage Boot Loader code template.  Here you will find a image_mover.c file which has a PartitionMove() function defined as this:

    u32 PartitionMove(u32 ImageAddress, int PartitionNum)

This function is responsible for handling the partition data read from boot media and when it locates a bitstream file, it transfers the bitstream data to the PCAP interface in order to configure the PL.  If you are not programming your PL already, you could take a look at this FSBL code to see if you can adapt some of this into your application.

    Regards,

    -Kevin

    Hey Kevin,

I programmed the PL with iMPACT before writing the software in the PS.
It's working with SDK this way, but not with DS-5.

DS-5 or better the ARM tells me that it is not possible to write at the specific memory maped address. It throws an exeption.
