Linaro

I have been introduced to Linaro recently http://www.linaro.org/ . I enjoy the consistency of a toolchain and community there. While I am aware there will be the same for the Zedboard, does anyone have any ideas of incorporating the Linaro tools over as well?

I'm also trying to make it work, at the moment the things i've done are:
- add a second partition (ext2) to the CF
- uncompress the linaro fs image in the CF
- start the original linux from the CF
- mount the linaro fs to /mnt:
mount /dev/mmcblk0p2 /mnt
- mount the /proc:
mount none /mnt/proc -t proc
- chroot to the linaro fs:
chroot /mnt
at this point most of the linaro applications works
if you execute them, for example:
ifconfig eth0 down
dhclient eth0 &
ifconfig eth0 up

but i'm sure this is NOT the way to do it!
there must be a way to call the (linaro) init process
after chroot but i can't still see how.

Can enyone enlighten us?

Take a look at this post:

It goes through modifying your SD-Card image. I believe that is what you would like to do here, modify the RAM Disk image to mount the second partition, rather than mount the /proc and other partitions in RAM.

Thank you ZG,
i was trying to avoid using the ramdisk and use a regular FS in CF in order to make the modification to the system permanent.
I suceeded when i realized thet the u-boot wasn't correctly passing the kernel parameters... anyway the ext4 fs on cf doesn't seem to be very robust, during usage you get a lot of IO errors and the FS gets corrupted, so the ramdisk isn't a bad idea after all!

I am getting tons of IO errors on my Zed SD card as well, but they appeared before and ext fs touched the card.

Is there some reason to expect that ext4 on SD is not robust or is the SD card just bad (both of ours??)?

I'd also like to get away from the ramdisk scenario, but have run into this. I am a bit of a linux noob, so it's not entirely clear how to get there from here, but these IO errors just seem wrong. :)

In my opinion the IO errors are probably hw related, i've tried different brands of CF and there are differences in the quantity of errors you get. With the best one i managed to run a couple of hours without errors, but you have to wait long enough and there you are.
Next thing i'd like to try is to mount the FS on a USB stick and see what happens... I'll let you know...

Since I've been running a full desktop on the machine (see my separate post about Xillinux), with reads and writes on the SD card like crazy, I doubt the board is to blame. If anything, the SD interface has proven surprisingly reliable, with clean recoveries from dropping power with an ext4 partition mounted for RW.

Maybe you have an unreliable flash device.

and things seems fine for the moment.

After some google searching I see that this issue with SD card IO errors is fairly common, so hopefully the problem is there and I have a good one!

In http://www.xilinx.com/support/answers/47916.htm shows a number of issues related to SDIO. Could be that some part of SD related code must be fixed? FOr example this issue "SD Capability Register Shows Wrong Max_Block_Length Value"?
