First of all, did you attempt to run "startx" from the serial console? I don't think that's supposed to work. The command should be issued from a keyboard connected to the Zedboard.

Otherwise, the reasonable explanation for a failure like this is that some file was damaged during an unclean powerdown of the board. The quickest fix is to rewrite the image to the the SD card.

It's pointless to debug problems like this. Since all systems start with exactly the same hardware configuration and software image, they should work exactly the same.

    Hello!

Sometimes I starting to get many IO errors during startup or shutting down.

    It looks like :
    "
mmcblk0: error -110 transferring data, sector xx, nr 8, cmd responce 0x900, card status 0xc00
    end_request: I/O error, dev mmcblk0,  sector xx
    "
    screenshot - http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/402/13112012007.jpg/

After that startx became fails to start. Helps only recovering original image to SD card.

What is going wrong ? Is there not enough speed or size of SD card (I used SD card which was included with ZedBoard) ?

    thank you!

Got the same problem, however I think it does not really affect system performance? Have you had any problems except error messages? My system produces them sometimes... However I feel it is mainly during big write-operations this happens. Is this your case as well?

You could also try to start with the zedboard reading rootfs from USB flash drive, works like a charm! ;)

The problem you report is exactly what a low-quality SD card produces. It simply fails on some sectors. The question is not why it doesn't work, but how come people manage to boot anything from it.

Please get yourself a Sandisk card, and play around happily ever after. :)
