PS-GTR USB3.0 Clock Freq

gge7
gge7 over 8 years ago

Hello

Thank you all for taking the time to read this.  I am a little confused but I think this will be easy to clear up.

On the IDT Clock Generator the original UltraZed IO Carrier had a 5P49V5935B521LTGI part listed with a frequency of 52MHz listed.  Now I saw in an eariler post that the part is really the 5P49V5935B536LTGI which from the custom Datasheet the frequency is 26MHz not the 52MHz that the original part listed had.  So is it 26MHz or 52MHz?

Please let me know and thank you for your help.

Gary

The 5P49V5935B521LTGI was supposed to have a 52MHz clock for the USB3.0 in its Configuration 3. However, we foubd out Configuration 3 was not programmed by IDT prior to shipping the device to us. Going forward, we will be using the 5P49V5935B536 device which has a 52MHz clock for the USB 3.0 interface in its Configuration 0. So in shoirt, we will be using 52MHz clock for the  USB 3.0 interface (although 26MHz is also a valid USB 3.0 clock).

    Hello

Thank you for the quick reply.  Ok I see that in the 5P49V5935B536 spec sheet.  Using Configuration 0 gives output1 52MHz.

But let me ask.  I have an UltraZed-EG starter kit so does that mean the USB 3.0 will not work because there is no clock going into the PS-GTR reference clock input?

    Thank you

    Gary

For the UltraZed-EG Starter Kits already in the field, you would need to configure the IDT clock Configuration 0 with a 52MHz clock on-the-fly. We have developed code that would do that for you. We will be building more Starter Kits in July using the correct IDT clock that would not require on-the-fly clock configuration.

Thank you again for the quick reply.  Could you point me in the correct direction on how to do that?

    Thank you

The example design will be posted to the IO Carrier Card web page http://zedboard.org/product/ultrazed-io-carrier-card by the end of this week.

Hello, has this been posted somewhere else?

I found a 2016.2 example design: "Open Source Linux USB3 Performance Test Tutorial" but it's not fixing the USB3 always connected at USB2 speeds issue.

I can read and write to the clock generator but the solution in the Appendix does not work.

    Hi tchoyt,

Did you try performing a soft reboot on your platform after applying the 52MHz clock configuration sequence?  I tried that on mine using the clock configuration sequence in the Appendix and the USB3 comes back reporting a link at 5.0Gbps when I run the "lsusb -t" command.

I also found that you need to have the correct jumper configuration on the I/O Carrier.  Jumpers must be set for host configuration mode by placing J1 and J2 to 2-3 position and by removing JP1 jumper.

I also found that cabling can have an impact upon transceiver performance.  I usually have good luck with the following adapter for my USB devices:

    Hi tchoyt and gge,

Any luck getting USB 3.0 working on your boards?

I came across this forum post that also recommends a specific type of USB 3.0 adapter be used on Xilinx ZCU102 board as well.

    Best Regards,

    -Kevin

I download the "UltraZed_Open_Source_Linux_USB3_Performance_Test_2016_2_01-Tutorial" with the above website link. But these files are same as "UltraZed_Open_Source_Linux_Sata_Performance_Test_2016_2_01-Tutorial" actually. I have try many times, but failed all the times.
How can i get the right files? Can you send these files to me by email. My email is ynt_zhurong@sina.com.Thank you.

The Link above is correct and you are downloading the correct documents. Look in the Doc folder that you downloaded. There you will see information inregards to the USB3 performance testing.
