Xilinx SDK No top menu

I'm running Ubuntu Unity 12.04.   When I invoke the sdk (by typing $ xsdk &) the sdk does indeed start up but in the terminal where it starts I get a slew of error messages such as:

(Xilinx SDK:3433): LIBDBUSMENU-GTK-CRITICAL **: watch_submenu: assertion `GTK_IS_MENU_SHELL(menu)' failed

And the top menu (containing File, Edit, Source, ...) is not present.

Any ideas?
