ZedBoard Hardware Design 3D model of zedboard

3D model of zedboard

Hi,

Is there available any 3D model of zedboard that can be used in SketchUp SW.

I was thinkin of making case for zedboard and I'm missing height information.

RazorLab seems to be ok place for laser cutting acrylic. That place seems to be pretty cheap for making cases.

    Hi Limba, this is an interesting idea that I also shared for making a ZedBoard enclosure and modeling it.  I dug around and was able to come up with a STEP format which I have used at previous jobs with SolidWorks to match PCB features up to mechanical designs for injection molded plastics.  I do not have access to SolidWorks to test it out, but I was able to find a STEP to 3DS converter.  This should enable a .3DS model file to be opened in 3D Studio Max or to be imported into SketchUp. 

    Once again, I do not have access to 3D Studio Max to test it out, but I was able to import the .3DS file into Google SketchUp 8.  The model does not look all that spectacular after the SketchUp import process and the model is not to scale either.  I found that I needed to scale the imported component up by a factory of 39.375 before it was fairly close to the dimensions found in the mechanical drawing.

    If you are interested in trying this for yourself, the model files have been posted in the Mechanical Drawing subsection on the ZedBoard.org Documentation page.

    As I mentioned, after going through the SketchUp import process, the component is a little rough but you should be able to see the rough component heights, connector alignments, and the PCB mounting holes positions as well.  Please be sure to double check any models against your real life ZedBoard before committing to any particular mechanical design.

    Feel free to share with the community on how your enclosure fabrication goes, we would love to hear it.
