I would like to know if the Zedboard SD reader is compatible with the SD cards new generation, the ultra high speed SD cards. I also would like to know if there could be performance benefits. Thanks a lot.

Which 32GB SanDisk card did you use that worked?
I've tried Sandisk Ultra UHS-1 32GB MicroSD (with adapter) and the linux kernel hung during boot - before even trying to mount the rootfs.
My Sandisk Ultra UHS-1 16GB MicroSD card fails the same way.
My Sandisk Ultra UHS-1 8GB MicroSD card works fine.
Why does the 8GB work? Did I just get lucky?
Why does 32GB fail (same brand, type, etc) ?
I tried a 16GB Samsung EVO UHS-1 and that worked. I will try a Samsung 32GB EVO soon.
However, I don't feel confident with all this. Is it just pot luck? Surely there must be some spec that says these types of cards should or shouldn't work.
Any help greatly appreciated.
