How to use Zedboard DSP multiplier, how to use Instantiation Template

Hello,

I'm new to Zedboard and even to FPGA or VHDL design.

I'm now building a project that uses the multiplier in the DSP part of Zedboard. I use Vivado 2014.4 or 2015.2

From page 56 of http://www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/sw_manuals/xilinx2014_2/ug953-vivado-7series-libraries.pdf

I found that I need to use VHDL Instantiation Template to instantiate the multiplier. These template can also found in Language Templates in Vivado.

But how to use the template? Where should I put the code in template to?

Appreciate any help. Thank you.

    What are you trying to accomplish? Is this part of a design including the Zynq PS (Processing System) or just a logic based HDL (VHDL or Verilog) design?

     

    If it is non-processor logic only design then you would include the HDL code from the template within your top level HDL code. A great way to learn how to do with within the Vivado design suite would be to attend one of the Avnet  Introduction to Vivado Speedway Workshops:

    There are also some good tutorials on the Xilinx University site that target the ZedBoard:

    If this is just a part of a larger Zynq design including the Processor System you will probably want to use the template to 'create' a custom IP block and use that within a Vivado IP Integrator design. The Xilinx University site linked above has workshops that target this design flow as well.

    This would be part of a design including the Zynq PS (Processing System).

    My design would be almost the same as the project here:

    The difference is that they design a multiplier themselves (by Create the Custom IP), but I want to use the multiplier in DSP48 of Zynq7000.

    Like you said, it seems that I should create custom IP, using the template.
