Using the Zuboard syzygy ports

loukilitarik2020

Hi,

I'm trying to use a few PMODs sensors with the Zuboard, any recommendations on how to achieve that. I already bought the SZG-PMOD4 (Opal Kelly) but it didnt work for me.

Thanks

Tarik

You will need to use the HSIO standard or TXR2 with PMOD voltage of 1.8V because of ZUBoard HP bank signal levels.

The Syzygy PMOD board is looking for VIO of 3.3V which ZUboard will not provide. So either you have no voltage provided to PMOD connector if add-on card is blocking that voltage or you have 1.2V/1.8V from  ZUBoard which may not power your PMOD which requires 3.3V.

A properly designed add-on board would require level translation to support  all of the voltages.

You may be better off using MikroE Click to PMOD but this is IO limited so you won’t get as many PMODs..

i think you are correct, it is a voltage level problem. are you aware of any expansion board with a voltage level translation for these Syzygy ports

Anyone here can help provide a simple schematic example to expose the syzgy pins as a 3.3v level ios. Thanks

Digilent has voltage level shifters for the PMOD side.  You might look into those to see if that can be used.  I find it odd that someone would put out a SZG to PMOD adapter and not include DC-DC converters for the supply voltage and level shifters for the signal lines.
