Windows 10 IoT , IoT Hub, Mean Stack

I presume for Azure Sphere i need to use Microsoft Azure. I have used Azure before but am not using it right now.

I have decide to do some reading about IoT with microsoft.

coincidentally, few days ago i borrowed a Windows 10 IoT book from library hence i spent the day flipping through it. It gives me the impression that i need to use IoT Hub. From my last experience, the most difficult thing with Azure, other than the documentation that is like a maze, is its unpredictable pricing. I haven't been able to calculate and predict its pricing the last i used it. I am also reading about OTA https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure-sphere/deployment/deployment-overview and https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure-sphere/deployment/deployment-concepts , and although the latter is detailed, i am still unsure if IoT hub is the only way i need to go about using Azure Sphere. I will leave the discovery to much later.

The other book i borrow is about MEAN stack, and i am specifically attracted to possibility of using it to build my own javascript powered IoT data platform. Although i have not even completed chapter 1, it gives me insight to browse online and found some mean stack IoT resources. i put in down here in reference

Windows 10 IoT and Azure are two kinda different ecosystems, though they can work together. I suspect there can be some crossover with 'Windows 10 IoT Core' for the Raspberry Pi.
