Azure Sphere Challenges Heat Map

Something cool to share: for the Azure Sphere challenges that e14 and Hackster.io are running, Softweb Solutions has built us a "heat map" of all the kits being connected for these challenges! This collects the data sent to the contest server via this process, so as you're doing your daily submission for Phase 1 of our Sensing the World challenge or your requirements for the Hackster.io Secure Everything challenge your device will show up on this map, along with how many times you've connected.

August 2 2019 UPDATE: the postal codes have been made more general, to protect the privacy of our members connecting to the contest server.

August 7 2019 UPDATE: we are working to restore the full device name on the heat map, where previously it had been redacted down to only a few characters. Please be sure to choose a device name that does not in any way compromise your privacy, by displaying your full name, location, or any other personal information. And have fun with the naming of the devices! But please do not use any words or phrases that could be considered offensive.

Looks like I'm top of the board at the moment - 0xFRED. I suppose mainly because shipping was quick in the UK and I started earlier than most. Unfortunately I didn't realise what the device name would…

I was getting "Wi-Fi not configured" My wifi router is a bit lazy so I needed to add a pause (TIMEOUT 5) before the line checkMAC in sk_check.bat file in order to let dhcp negotiation finish before wifi…

Noticed I have been moved from one state to another in the USA because of my city name exiting in multiple parts of the country.  So zip code seems to no longer play a role in your location on the map.

peterfenn hi Peter! Has anything changed with how the heat map reckons a user's location?

My kit also disappeared from map some days ago, although its location was displayed perfectly before.
Fortunately it is still listed in the leaderboard image

danzima The competition server doesn't seem to be registering my device today. I sent the data this morning and I just tried it twice and didn't get the confirmation email even though the app appeared to have sent the data. My data isn't showing in the heat map. That'll mean I'll miss a day and fail to reach the required 15 days in a row.

Hi Steve, thanks for letting me know! We will be sure to count all the days you submit towards the 15 day requirement, and we understand that there might be days of technical problems or personal reasons why the continuous daily sync doesn't happen (within reason), so you'll be just fine.

peterfenn have you seen any other reports of contest server problems?

Recent changes to protect the privacy of users (suppression of ZIP code based location and the abbreviation of the device names) has introduced some issues which are now being worked-on

I can report that, although I am no longer receving the automatic confirmation emails, my device sync is being registered on the heatmap and that I have achieved 15 consecutive daily syncs. I notice that the location reporting is now different and the UK devices now appear as "UK" rather than "united kingdom" (plus a lot of other "tidying up").

One more day for me, but since I'm still the only one in AU, it seems that my "bubble" has disappeared until either I filter for "Australia" or zoom in enough on the map. While the names are censored and countries are cleaned in the list, the filter dropdowns on the left still seem to have the full set of data. I didn't get an e-mail for my sync today either, but it seems to have counted just fine.
