Azure Sphere Challenges Heat Map

Something cool to share: for the Azure Sphere challenges that e14 and Hackster.io are running, Softweb Solutions has built us a "heat map" of all the kits being connected for these challenges! This collects the data sent to the contest server via this process, so as you're doing your daily submission for Phase 1 of our Sensing the World challenge or your requirements for the Hackster.io Secure Everything challenge your device will show up on this map, along with how many times you've connected.

August 2 2019 UPDATE: the postal codes have been made more general, to protect the privacy of our members connecting to the contest server.

August 7 2019 UPDATE: we are working to restore the full device name on the heat map, where previously it had been redacted down to only a few characters. Please be sure to choose a device name that does not in any way compromise your privacy, by displaying your full name, location, or any other personal information. And have fun with the naming of the devices! But please do not use any words or phrases that could be considered offensive.

Looks like I'm top of the board at the moment - 0xFRED. I suppose mainly because shipping was quick in the UK and I started earlier than most. Unfortunately I didn't realise what the device name would…

I was getting "Wi-Fi not configured" My wifi router is a bit lazy so I needed to add a pause (TIMEOUT 5) before the line checkMAC in sk_check.bat file in order to let dhcp negotiation finish before wifi…

danzima The competition server doesn't seem to be registering my device today. I sent the data this morning and I just tried it twice and didn't get the confirmation email even though the app appeared…

Does anyone know what time zone the server that receives these requests is in?

I think that I may have missed a day because I did it later in the day in my time(Central US), but it seems to have been recorded for the next day instead of the current one. If we know the time zone of the receiving server, it will help us in different places be able to run our sync application in the proper time window.

peterfenn do you happen to know how the contest server reckons time zones? Please see Frank Jones's comment above.

    Hello danzima,

Don't take my comment for granted but I believe the server doesn't compute the time zones. I actually think it works based on the UTC at the time the sync is happening, I believe this based on my experience: I usually do my syncs around 7 pm EST (11 pm UTC). Yesterday I did it at 9 pm EST (1 am UTC). When checking my progress today, the graph shows like I missed a day image

Hi Luis et al, you are correct! Per Softweb it is a UTC time at the time of the sync.

But ultimately we aren't going to penalize folks for missing a day here or there, we understand that problems occur or personal things come up! We definitely want to see 15 days completed, and a good faith effort to make it a continuous process.
