Is it possible to communicate with PC over USB?

Fred27

I notice that three USB serial ports appear when the Avnet Azure Sphere Starter Kit is connected to a PC, and I can see these are the listed as the service, recovery and debug ports. It sounds like none of these can be used for user communication, but thought I'd check. I'd rather not add a separate USB to serial if I didn't need one.

I know I can do it with s USB to serial, I was just wondering if it's possible using the built-in one.

ISU0 should be configurable as a UART and acessible via Click Module 1 and 2.
You'd need a serial 3V3 to USB converter (a LaunchPad or 3V3 Arduino can do that)

edit: thre's an example program: https://github.com/Azure/azure-sphere-samples/tree/master/Samples/UART/UART_HighLevelApp

Without a special USB cable no. The PC has USB host interfaces which only talk to USB devices. The USB host interface controls all communications protocols between the host and

devices. There is no protocol for USB host devices to talk to each other. If you had a USB cable with two device type interfaces connected to each other so they could pass bytes to

each other and each device interface connected to the host interfaces of the PCs you want to connect together along with the right software then they could talk to each other. I believe

such cables and software does exist.
