Is there anyway to use Azure Sphere with an Gmail account?

Question

I got my Azure Sphere starter kit today and as was setting the whole thing up I realized that you need to claim your device under a work/student azure account in order to do a lot of things.

I have a school account that I could use for the device but I don't want claim my device under an account that will be disable in less than a year (I graduate next semester).

So, is there a way to get an Azure Sphere account with my personal gmail account.

Yes, Without any limitations. Microsoft allow to use entire eMail and products as your gmail id. All you have to do is follow this steps: 1. Go to https://account.microsoft.com/account?lang=en-us 2. Created New account 4. You will redirected to new page where you have to write your GMAIL ID and click next. 5. Verify it because one verification code will be sent to your gmail. 6. Done! What actually happens here is Microsoft allows you to use you gmail acc. name as Microsoft LOGIN ID. and its totally acts like fresh MS Acc. You can use all their products and services, just you are using login ID as gmail that's it! No expiry. Ref. https://www.howtogeek.com/359448/how-to-create-a-microsoft-account/ And for Azure AAD it has perpetrate domain name xyz@onmicrosoft.com and it also comes with separate Password! once you create it you can only claim your device under that tenant. And this new ID & PASS is all you have to care about. Note : For claiming device you don't have to signup for any azure plans, just login to azure portal and it will allow to create some tenants for FREE. So up to claiming device everything is free But if you plan to utilize MS IoT hub It may cost you something , but it has nothing to do with your KIT you can still program it without IoT Hub subscription.

No, but you can create your own account by following this:

If you plan to use an Azure IoT Hub, follow the instructions to create an Azure subscription. If prompted, sign into your newly created directory as userID@domainname.onmicrosoft.com. Then follow the prompts to sign up for a free Azure subscription. You will need to enter credit card details for verification only.

Forgot to answer. No to gmail account, yes to some.user@TheDomain .onmicrosoft.com. The italicized part is your choice, the rest is required by azure.
