Return to Azure Sphere*

element14 and Hackster.io have launched two great Design Challenges based around the Avnet Azure Sphere MT3620 kit, and for members from eligible countries we have 20,000 free kits available so you can join the competitions! The registration process is simple: just be a member of the element14 Community or register for a free account, then follow the "register" link above, where all the details are provided. You will be responsible for paying any shipping charges, sales taxes, VAT, or customs duties necessary in your country when you check out with your free kit on the e-commerce site for your country. Please note that being an element14 member makes one (1) Azure Sphere kit available to you, and any abuse of the free kit system may be grounds for disqualifying your entry into the competition and cancelling your kit order.

You can do your registration for the free kit on a mobile or desktop browser and receive your voucher code, but please use a desktop browser to complete your purchase order on the e-commerce website where you apply the voucher code. Please also note that some members have had problems with their ad-blocking programs interfering with the use of the voucher code, if you are having trouble please try disabling your ad-blocker on the e-commerce page and then enter the voucher code.

Please note that in some countries the price of the kit will be reduced not totally to 0, but rather by nearly all of its face value, so the kit itself might still have a very small price attached to it. This depends on the functionality of the e-commerce site, but the kit will be free or nearly free in all regions after the voucher code is applied.

Please also note that in some countries there will show only 1 kit in stock; this is due to the functionality of the site and does not reflect the actual stock available. If the kit shows that it is in stock with at least 1 piece, there will be significant amount of stock to fill orders for the free kits. The most up to date information on whether free kits are available in your country can be found in this document, so please bookmark it.

NOTE FOR USA, UNITED KINGDOM, IRELAND, FRANCE, ITALY, SPAIN: ADDITIONAL STOCK OF FREE KITS HAS BEEN ADDED, REGISTER NOW WHILE THEY ARE STILL AVAILABLE!

NOTE FOR GERMANY: FREE KITS WILL BE AVAILABLE STARTING NOVEMBER 19 2019 TO BUSINESS USERS ONLY.

NOTE FOR ALL OTHER COUNTRIES: STOCK OF FREE KITS HAS BEEN CLAIMED. CHALLENGES ARE STILL OPEN TO THOSE WHO OBTAIN THEIR OWN AVNET AZURE SPHERE MT3620 KITS.

For those who are not from a country eligible for the free Azure Sphere kits, you can still join the challenges! Just obtain an Avnet Azure Sphere kitAvnet Azure Sphere kit on your own, making sure that it is approved to work in your country, and check out the details of the challenges in our Azure Sphere space. The challenges are based around the Avnet Azure Sphere MT3620 kit; no other Azure based kits are eligible.

Please see below regarding countries which are eligible for free Azure Sphere kits. If your country is marked YES, you can order your kit using the "register" button above. If your country is marked NO, you will need to purchase your own Azure Sphere kit. If your country is not mentioned specifically, but the Azure Sphere kit is available for purchase and functions in your region, you may also join the challenges if you purchase your own kit, assuming you are eligible for our Design Challenges based on our Terms and Conditions.

Hi there, the only thing I would advise is that you be sure to monitor the email account you use when you do your contest server connections! That is the information we will have in our data, and if we need to contact you we will need to use that, so be sure it is correct and up to date.

Here ya go!  Here's the ANSWER.  I tried, really hard, 2 weeks ago to order the FREE ASzure Sphere Kit (for the contests). Element 14 sent an email, that said, "take this code" click here, just pay for shipping, and you'll get the KIT !!  GREAT.

Well, the CODE, 2 weeks ago, didn't work. Back then, I spoke with Newark (distributor) TWICE, sent them a 4-page email, telling them step-by-step what I entered, and that the Code Entered "didn't work" !  Next day, speaking with a DIFFERENT Customer Service person at Newark, STILL DIDN'T WORK.

Got another email TODAY, 10/04/2019 (I'm in California- that's not in Bulgaria, it's actually a State in the U.S.  Element 14 shows that you can't get this Free Kit if you're in Canada or Mexico (go figure?), but doesn't explain why Code No Good in California.

Well, today, after I clicked on Element 14 site, "Buy Now", it gave me a CHOICE to order from either Newark OR Avnet !

So, I went ahead, opened an account on Avnet (also), and it already had the Item in my "Shopping Cart".  I entered the Code, it said, "Code Invalid".

That was a NEW code I got today from Element 13- (I just got curious, Periodic Table "Element 14", Atomic Number 13 is SILICON. How clever ! ).

So, here's the deal.  Avnet Customer Support says to order the FREE ONE, using the Element 14 Code, needs to be from Newark.  OK.

I noticed that at Avnet, there are like 400 in stock.  Apparently, whoever sends emails to potential contest participants doesn't know that

Avnet REFUSES to use THE CODE.

I went back to Element 14, clicked on "Buy Now", chose Newark.  It said, "Code Invalid".

WELL, finally found a honest person working in Customer Service / Technical Support / Website Support (same PHONE NUMBER, for each)

This Honest person told me that NEWARK is "out of stock", actually, has been out of stock since 9/25/19.  They haven't received more yet, because I forget the number, but the lead time, Newark ordering from the manufacturer, is like 16 weeks, or so. So, why would Element 14 send an email that says "available with Code"?

The answer is simple. It's the same reason they're not working in one of the Software Developer (or Hardware Engineer) positions.

Not so much angry, at the Email Sender. More like "sad" for this man, woman, or whatever.

Hi there! As we did for the Sensing the World Connections Raffle, the primary ID we are using for the kits if the Microsoft uniqueID, since it is unique to the kit, and we are then using the other info supplied for that kit to identify the community member. We had no trouble in the Raffle doing so, and we anticipate it will be the same process for Phase 1, except with more entries to evaluate.

clem57 I agree. It's irritating enough when people grab one without reading the prerequisites and then moan "it won't work on my Mac" or "I won't use it if I have to use Azure". Even worse when it's just hoping for a profit. I got mine, but there are plenty of people who would like to explore Azure Sphere and can't because the allocation for their country has been exhausted.
