Sensing the World Connections Raffle - Winners Announced!

Sensing the World Raffle

Get Azure Sphere Kit | Starter Kit: Technical Specifications

image

The Winners!

fustilio - Singapore, 3 days of connections

higuy - USA, 17 days of connections

taimin - Poland, 16 days of connections

We want to congratulate our three winners of the Sensing the World Connections Raffle, listed above! Each of them will be able to build a shopping cart of whatever parts they need, worth $200 USD in their currency.

And we also want to thank everyone who participated in the raffle, helping us to expand the reach of this Design Challenge and the Azure Sphere platform!

The Contest

To encourage members to get their Azure Sphere kits connected, we're hosting our Sensing the World Connections Raffle!

To enter, sync your kit daily to our contest server using the method described here during the two week period from September 11th to September 27th, 2019. The more times you connect your kit, the more raffle entries you get! You will be able to connect a maximum of once per day that will count towards this contest; further connections within the same day will not be counted beyond the first. This contest is separate from Phase 1 of our main Sensing the World challenge, so you can be a winner of both this contest and of Phase 1 in Sensing the World. Your connections during the raffle period will also count towards your total connections, if you haven't already met your Phase 1 requirement. If you have met your Phase 1 requirement already, you will still need to make additional connections to become part of this contest.

We will pick three winners: one from the Americas, one from Europe, and one from Asia / Pacific. The winners will each earn a shopping cart of parts from our e-commerce stores equivalent to $200 USD in their own currency. They can use that shopping cart to order any parts they want, restricted only by what is offered in their respective countries, to be sure we are in accordance with trade restrictions.

Important Dates

Raffle BeginsSeptember 11th, 2019
Raffle EndsSeptember 27th, 2019
Winners AnnouncedOctober 2nd, 2019

So, get your kit connected for your chance to win! Winners will be announced and contacted within 5 business days of the close of the raffle on September 27th, 2019, to give our team time to validate the results and randomly select the winners.

This is correct! We're encouraging people to connect as many times as they can, but of course as Dixon mentioned we don't want spamming, so you're limited to one sync per day that counts towards a raffle…

The registration issue encountered by many of you this past weekend has been resolved Caused by a DNS resolution issue, following a server migration, this has since been corrected. All now working again…

Hi Dixon, thanks for pointing this out, I thought the wording was mostly clear but I think it can be better! Basically, you can sync to the contest server once per day during this period, and each day…

That's exactly right: the Connections Raffle is a SEPARATE contest from Sensing the World overall. Phase 1 of Sensing the World will have winners selected in a similar process, except there will be no "raffle" element. If you've done your Phase 1 requirement, that adds your name to the list of potential winners, with each member who completes Phase 1 having a single entry. They will then be chosen randomly in essentially the same fashion, except there will be no separating of the regions. All Phase 1 qualifiers will be part of the same "pot."

Hi Naveen, it was just a random chance, you're exactly right! And the more entries you had the more chances. But a user could absolutely have won the raffle with only a single connection, if they were particularly lucky.

We had a spreadsheet of all connections made during the period, we removed duplicates so that users could only earn one entry per day, separated the entries into Americas, Europe, and Asia Pacific regions, and then with that we had set up each entry assigned with a number. So we used a random number generator, and the connection that was made on that random number meant that user was a winner!

yokonav I was a bit confused at first too. I think this raffle with 3 winners doesn't have a minimum number of connections. The more you connect, the better your chances, but that's it. I'm sure danzima will correct me if I'm wrong, but that's how it seem to me.

It seems to be entirely separate to the one with 50 winners (that's a lot! a total of $10,000 in Amazon vouchers! is that right?image) that is shown here: https://www.element14.com/community/docs/DOC-92683/l/sensing-the-world-challenge?ICID=azure-sphereCH-feature#prizes

I guess I misunderstood. It was just a random chance. I am just curious how the draw was performed?

Caused by a DNS resolution issue, following a server migration, this has since been corrected.
