UltraZed-EV PCN and BOM updates are here!

Hi everyone,

 

Just a quick note to help get the word out.

Recently, Micron did a die shrink on their memory.  The new part is form-fit-function the same and the package has not changed either!  This is good news!

 

The original part is the Micron MT40A512M16JY-083EIT:BTR whereas the new part is the Micron MT40A512M16LY062EIT:E

 

Going along with our commitment to producing boards for at least 10 years from introduction, we have created a few proto boards with the new memory and tested them.  Things looked as good as one would expect!

 

Since the testing went so well, the next order of UltraZed-EV SOM's will come in with the new memory.  This should be after the 8th work week of year 2021.  The current stock will still contain the previous parts.  For further questions, or how to tell if your board has the new memory or not, please refer to the full PCN below.

 

Once the product page gets updated, you will see the new BOM and the full Product Change Notice posted under the Technical Documents section of the UltraZed-EV Product page.

    Good question.

    While you should be able to, this is not a mode that we have tested.  I do have plans to work on this for the next release of the BDF repository.  At this time we were concentrating on compatibility with existing designs.

    That being said, we do have a few field team members that have hand configured for the faster speeds for specific customer use cases with good success.  I cannot say this has been tested over temperature or with any regression testing as would be the case with any changes made to the Avnet BDF repository https://github.com/avnet/bdf

     

    There is a similar change coming for the UltraZed-EG product line.  Since the testing is intense, we are concentrating on compatibility until both boards are in production.  At that time, we will be able to get some first articles and tune them for optimal performance instead of backwards compatibility.

  • I see that the memory speed grade is changing from -083 to -062. Does that mean that I can increase the memory controller clock frequency on my UltraZed design?

     

    Will I need a new Board Description File?
