New DC active load project based on the PSoC 4

For some time I've been working on a DC active load project based on the PSoC 4, called the Re:load Pro. It's ideal for testing power supplies batteries, motor drivers, and so forth, and it's entirely open-source, and up now on kickstarter, here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/nickjohnson/re-load-pro-a-dc-active-load

 

Any thoughts or feedback much appreciated!

  • You don't say anything in you Kickstarter about CE marking, EMC or safety testing or any other such regulatory issues. You don't provide a performance specification or much detail about the controls offered - do you support constant power, resistance or voltage modes, what is the transient response like etc etc.

    All good questions. The product will be CE marked and self-certified.

     

    In hardware, the device has a constant current feedback loop. Bandwidth is 6MHz, though that's somewhat reduced by the external compensation circuit. Constant power and resistance modes are something I plan to offer in software, though obviously with a software control loop the transient response will be poorer than in constant current mode.

     

    Transient response measurements are something I plan to measure and optimise in the very near future.
