Need consultation on creating educational raspberry computers for children 5/6 till 14

Our orphanage has not been exposed to the worldwide web and computers. But we know that this generation will live with that technology. We don't want to expose them to the bad elements on the web but want them still learning the use of the Internet in a protected access zone and give them opportunity to develop and enrich themselves with learning opportunities after school

    Hi Erik,

     

    Schools will have already gone through this process due to legislation (e.g. *** in the USA) and therefore you can build on the established, extensively field-tested methods for safety/security.

    Different vendors will have implemented things in different ways, so you should try to compare them, and reach out to the firms involved. You shouldn't need to build and load content; you can define a

    policy stating what content you want to be accessible (e.g. Youtube may be fine, but certain content in Youtube might not be, such as gambling related).

    Hi Erik

    I think all the ISPs provide a parental control filter taht can be activated witjh a very low monthly fee.

    If you want to build your own filter, you can share the internet connection of a windows PC and use the preinstalled parental control (available in windows 7 or later) or use any other parental control softwares available out there

    As an example, you could also use a Raspberry Pi with the KidSafe software as explained here
