Replace triac BT137

rekeijao
rekeijao over 6 years ago

Hello,

I'm new to the forum, therefore I'm sorry if this post isn't in right place.

I'm hardware developer and currently, I'm changing a hold PCB that use triac BT137, because others components are obsolete.

My question is: I would like to replace this triac for one more modern with a suppose bigger life production. Do you know one better Triac for this proposal? How I Known the life production of one component?

Thank you for your help.

Bruno Matos

It's probably easier if you decide what sort of characteristics you need from your TRIAC (e.g. voltages, currents, trigger characteristics) and then decide based on filtering the presently available devices…

The BT137 triac was a Phillips Semiconductor part number. Maybe even a Signetics part number (before it became Phillips). Phillips morphed into NXP and now they have partnered to form WeEn Semiconductor…

It's probably easier if you decide what sort of characteristics you need from your TRIAC (e.g. voltages, currents, trigger characteristics) and then decide based on filtering the presently available devices on the market to see which ones are functionally sufficient. This would give you the most choices, but almost certainly, there may be pinout or package variations you'd need to account for.

Otherwise, you could try searching for the equivalent or better characteristics of the BT137 similar to what I tried from the Australian element14 site: https://au.element14.com/w/c/semiconductors-discretes/thyristors/thyristors-triacs?peak-repetitive-off-state-voltage-vdr…  But there's no guarantee these devices will meet your needs and are not likely to be drop-in replacements. You need to do your own research to be sure.

It seems Ween Semiconductor still manufactures BT137 ... so you could probably continue using it until it's discontinued. Otherwise perhaps look at the datasheets for hints on release dates, etc.

    - Gough

The BT137 triac was a Phillips Semiconductor part number. Maybe even a Signetics part number (before it became Phillips). Phillips morphed into NXP and now they have partnered to form WeEn Semiconductor.

The BT137 is still made by WeEn in many variants of packaging and voltage.

    Thyristors | WeEn

I don't see anything that indicates it is going obsolete.
