I am planning on purchasing a new phone in the near future.
I am confronted with two choices: an Android device or an iPhone.
As a consensus, what do you all use? Are there benefits in choosing either one?

It is a bit of a personal choice. I love my droid a855. The iPhone has more apps because it has been on the market longer. There are a few EE apps for the droid. I borrowed an iPhone and didn't really like it, but that's me. I'm using my droid for this post and I found this post through the element14 app. I read an article that said the iphone is easier to use but the android os is better for the more tech savy. I'm sure the smart phone debate will be like the PC and Mac.
I use a phone from Samsung that uses their own operating system. All though there are relatively no external apps for it, it stil performs the functions i need it do rather well. It has a moble browser that can access the mobile version of element 14, camera, music player, and a programable calander (in addition to a couple other apps). It doesn't have any technical applications (and probably won't) but that wasn't my concern when I got it.
Hope this helps!
Let's see, so far we have:
Android: 1 user
iPhone: 1 user
Other: 1 user
I want to do a consensus, so please post to this thread what you use.

With new "Superphones" on the horizon, I don't know what direction I should head.
There are so many choices now:
HTC Evo 4G (Android)
HTC HD2 (Windows Mobile 6.5)
iPhone 4 (iPhone OS)
Palm Pre (WebOS)
HTC incredible (Android)
On and on
Any insight in which I should get would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Cabe,
Choice is yours, and you had your options. Searching for more details may only confuse you.
Decide on the one that provides prompt service backup, and not let you down.
Regards,
Thomas.
May be you don't have to worry more about this...

I think android is going to be better in one or two years, if you want a smartphone for now then iPhone (now in 4G) is a better option because of the amount of usefull applications. Now there are applications for android but they are still in beta.
Hope this help, best regards!!
I have an HTC Hermes (rebadged as a T-Mobile MDA II), running Windows Mobile 6.1. I bought it second-hand unlocked on Ebay, because I was replacing a Palm PDA (not because I was replacing my phone). It has Windows Excel, Word, Acrobat Reader, an MP3 player, calendar, and contacts list - I have added a password holder (best app ever, if you have more than 5 passwords!). It syncs to my Windows laptop, and I can add any multitude of games. It has a full slide-out keyboard.
I don't need an app store, the web is my app store. I wanted a phone that I could run work documents, hack, add new skins, change the lock screen, the home screen, the icon layout, the button functions, etc., and had a full qwerty keyboard (like my previous Nokia, believe me texting is SO much easier) - oh, and I can replace the battery when it wears out! So, IPhone was out. I bought before Android was around, so I can't comment on that - but I suspect if I was buying now, it would be a strong contender
