Data Logger & Software combo needed

Catwell
Catwell over 15 years ago

I am in the urgent need of a Data Logger / Data acquisition module with companion software. One stipulation, I need the software to be comfigurable without programming.

What have you used? What's good? I need any and all options.

    Cabe:

If you are willing to do some programming on your own, you could try Sparkfun's Logomatic board - http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=8627.  Programming of the onboard NXP LPC2148FBD64,151LPC2148FBD64,151 is through either the USB or the SD card.  Its limitation would be that the ADC is only 10 bit.  On the other hand, it has onboard storage and a built-in bootloader.  Sparkfun has written a little data logging program for the LPC2148FBD64,151LPC2148FBD64,151 - no PC interface, though.

    Steve,

Thank you for the idea of using the NXP LPC2148FBD64,151LPC2148FBD64,151. However, it is out of my time frame to make that work for me.

My product is finished, currently using the Picotech solution. But, I recently found that the software "Picolog" is discontinued. So, looks like I am back on this quest.

    Hello Cabe,

What makes you think that Picolog is no more ?

Had a quick look at http://www.picotech.com/data-logging-software.html and it seems alive and well to me.

    Michael,

Picotech told me, via email, that they are no longer going to do any updates to the software, and the tech support has moved to the forum area.

Not quite the longevity I desire for a new product launch.

    Any thoughts?

You're ahead of me there ! I can't think of anything closer to the Picos than the Agilent but it is more expensive.

Although pico log recorder and log player may be going end of life (although I have to say, I see no mention of this on their site) I'm sure they will be replaced with something bigger and better.

Looking at the current downloads on the pico site there is 'PicoScope 5 + PicoLog' and 'PicoScope 6' - so I'm guessing that the logging fucntions are now either in PicoScope or they are in something new still to be annouced.

In addittion, all the pico data loggers have an SDK available which is very easy to use.

You can write your own apps in C, or even directly inside Excel - examples are given.

I've personally used several of their SDKs for both Oscilloscopes and Data loggers in recent past, and am currently working on a new product based around their TC-08 temperature probes. So I'd be willing to help you get to grips with the SDKs if you wish.

    Kenny,

Thanks for the research into the subject. I was unaware of Picoscope.

I will definitely take you up on your offer. I will get back to you on the details soon.
