Eagle PCB: how to get past "cannot back annotate" problem?

I am new to Eagle 7 and have run into a few problems using the PCB functions.

I have components placed but when I try to add traces between the pads I get the error "cannot back annotate this operation, change it on the schematic"

I am not interested in spending the time creating a separate schematic and want to just lay out a board to send to g-code.

Since there is no schematic how can I just lay out the board directly and eliminate this kind of error?

Hi,

the message "cannot back annotate this operation, change it on the schematic" will be shown if there is a related schematic file loaded. Please load the board file only, place the packages with ADD and use SIGNAL and ROUTE or simply WIRE for drawing the layout.
