ATMEL  ATAVRZUSBSTICK  AT86RF230, USB STICK

Hi,

Can you confirm me on the following technical information –

1.Does this USB stick support 6LoWPAN so that when it is connected to a PC, it shall act as a 6LoWPAN Edge router out-of-box? If not, is there any programming required, and if so what are the components required?

2.Does this USBstick work properly with Windows 7, 8, 8.1, Ubuntu Linux 14.04 LTS, ContikiOS?

3.Can this stick be configured to act as a n/w sniffer? What all protocol level debugging – 6LoWPAN, IPv6 etc. can this support?

4.Related to point 1 – can it’s firmware be modified to make it act like a simple 6LoWPAN node and 6LoWPAN host (some minimalistic routing capabilities to support mesh networking). If not, do you have any other device which can support this functionality.

Regards,

PMK

    Hi Clem,

That was really surprising, from the information mentioned in the link for Atmel ATAVRZUSBSTICK - http://www.element14.com/community/docs/DOC-67532/l/avr-rz-usb-stick-module#overview it was looking that it might support the features that I am looking for. In any case, could you let me know the uses of this USB stick?

Thanks for letting me know on the TI CC2531 kit, the link that you have given again points to the USB stick and I believe that you mention that it can support all the 4 points that I have put in the mail earlier.

The application note for TI CC2531 mentions the following - http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/swru221a/swru221a.pdf on Page 7

"The dongle comes preprogrammed with firmware such that it can be used as a packet sniffer device. For programming the device with other firmware an external ICE is needed. The SmartRF05EB 1 can be used to program the USB dongle."

           Some queries -

    1.    By default it acts as a 802.15.4 packet sniffer, can it be configured as a 6LoWPAN Edge router and 6LoWPAN host (device)? Do you know any applications which are available at TI's site that can be used for the same?

    2.    It shall require an additional programmer the SmartRF05EB in order to program the USB, what is the cost of this?

    Regards,

    PMK
