Looking for SBC options..

Former Member
Former Member over 12 years ago

Hi all

I am looking for SBC options with the following requirements:

Well docmented/community supported

Full HD via HDMI

GPIO Python Library

While the RPi would seem to tick those boxes id rather avoid it for various reasons. Beaglebone would be perfect if not for the lack of 1080p@60hz over HDMI. I have also been eyeing up the OLinuXino's from Olimex which seem to have a soild reputation and would do the job prehaps. Any others I should be aware of ?

You might want to check out Wandboard.  Its Freescale i.MX 6 supports 1080p60 decode and 1080p30 encode.  I don't know if Wandboard or its software supports the full data rate.

I don't know -- I'm not a Python user.  You might check the Wandboard forum at their website and ask if necessary.  For any community-supported board, I always recommend checking the available fora and wikis to see how well they answer questions such as yours.  You'll be depending on those people long term, so now is a good time to find out if they're going to be helpful.

    Update:

Cubieboard, Wandboard and OlinuXino all seem to offer what I am looking for more or less

Pretty much down to which offers the "best" community, Freescale vs Allwinner and EU/UK avaliblity at this point. Anyone got any thoughts/feedback on any of these ?

UK availability of Cubieboard and Wandboard are not good currently. e14 stock some of the Olimex boards, but typically the ones you want are not in stock and wait months for any availability.

There's currently a small qty of Cubieboard2 available in the UK from here http://www.coolcomponents.co.uk/cubieboard-a20.html

An alternative to the Wandboard could be the Sabre Lite which uses the same i.MX6 SoC : 21243982124398
