Who wants to review a free pcDuino v2?

fustini
fustini over 12 years ago

I received a pcDuino v2 with integrated Wi-Fi at Maker Faire New York 2013.  I thought it would be fun to have someone from element14 Community take it for a spin.  Here's my gallery of the board: https://plus.google.com/photos/117542001281850354871/albums/5940327956141042529?banner=pwa

I'm going to give this pcDuino v2 for free to a lucky Community member with the request that the winner please write a review (either in the blog here or somewhere else on the web).  It doesn't have to be anything fancy so don't be intimidated.  Sorry, no minors, you must be 18 years of age or older!

To enter, do the following:

  • Reply to this post with a short description of why you are interested (1 to 2 sentences is fine)
  • I'll will pick a winner at random on Wednesday, November 6th, at 5pm US CDT.

Note: I'm located in Chicago and will ship it for free to the winner using the lowest cost option available.  If the winner is located outside the US, then the winner will be responsible for paying any customs fees or duty that may apply.  I will list the value as $55 USD.

Cheers,

Drew

    It's interesting that they say

Moreover, it has a hardware header interface compatible with Arduino.

However the pictures suggest the form factor is different. They are pins, rather than female headers, and along one side.

Drew's pictures show that V2 version is compatible, so it appears mcmelectronics only have version 1 (which you've linked to)

V2 on the pcDuino website http://www.pcduino.com/?page_id=1618

I struggled to find if the GPIO is 5v or 3v3, but it is only 4mA, rather than the 20mA an Arduino is capable of.

    from here

    1. Here is the list of I/O interfaces on pcDuino board.
    2. 14 digital pins for GPIO: GPIO max out current is 4mA.
    3. One UART RX, one UART TX
    4. Two PWM pins, support up to 24MHz.
    5. Six ADC pins, ADC 0 and ADC 1 are 6 bits resolution, while the rest are 10 bits resolution.
    6. Four SPI pins
    7. Two I2C pins

This page suggests a level shifter is required Shields

Thanks, yeah, I think one of the key difference between v1 and v2 is that v2 had the physical Arduino headers.  The v1 needed some type of adapter board I believe.

Most reviews here are from the view of someone who has been into embedded programming for years. I would like to like to review it from the eyes of someone who hasn't.

I'd love to use it in comparison with some of the other microcomputers that I own.... Plus I'd be producing videos for my Non-Profit Project LEAD

    Thanks Drew!

I'd love to take this for a spin as part of our enhanced door entry system for the local hackspace, BuildBrighton.

So it wouldn't be just one winner if my name came out, but 80+ winners ;-)

Oh man, I would totally love to play with one of those! I need an Arduino style controller that I can ssh into on my bike to control some fancy lights.
