Cheap Single Board Computer with Gigabit Ethernet

pcgenius101
pcgenius101 over 8 years ago

I'm working on a project that monitors the speed of internet. The board I require is very, very simple. All I need is Gigabit Ethernet to monitor the speed and then publish it to the web. It doesn't even need memory, just enough to run the program and the os. I've been looking around and I can't find a board that comes with gigabit ethernet and that is cheap (~$10 or less). If there was a board that was capable of running gigabit ethernet then I could add a jack, as long as the price didn't go too high. I've looked at the raspberry pi zero, but then I add in the cost of the adapter, the sd card, etc. I will use the Pi Zero if there is no other option but I figured I would ask before.

Thanks!

With respect to the Pine A64+, I wrote up my own installation last July: The specified item was not found. I paid USD 29 for a 2GB version but the cheapest model (512MB) is USD 15. See https://www.pine64…

Hm... That looks interesting. It's a shame that the 512 MB (only $15) doesn't have gigabit. I'll check the price against the cost of the Pi Zero + adapter but that might work...

Wow, that's a lot of ports! That might be useful for something with a higher budget. However as I mentioned it's too expensive for my budget of $15. Thanks anyway!

With respect to the Pine A64+, I wrote up my own installation last July: The specified item was not found.

I paid USD 29 for a 2GB version but the cheapest model (512MB) is USD 15.  See https://www.pine64.org/

The following web page keeps track of what you can install on this board: Pine A64 Software Release - PINE64

A USD 10 board with Gigabit Ethernet?  Good luck with that!

10-15 dollars is like one meal at most places. Consider ways to save then spend.

Do you need a gigabit? 100 Mbits is what most people have for internet or less.

Huh... I guess I never really realized but the average is 55 Mbps... I have 200 Mbps (then again I need it for my whole family). Maybe I'll make a gigabit version and a normal version. Thanks!
