HI Joshu and all,
is there a way to clock the maaxboard at a lower frequency?
We are running into some heat issues and was wondering what the options are?
Thank you very much

Hello,
The i.MX 8M device on the MaaXBoard can produce quite a bit of heat when in use.
Here are a couple of options
Options
1. Develop a custom more efficient passive heat sink - Avnet offers design services in this area
2. Add on a fan, the 40 pin header on board provides a 5V/3V power source, in addition there are mounting holes on top of the default heatsink that comes with the board to mount a 25mm fan
3. Lower CPU frequency
In regards to lowering the CPU speed check out this link https://community.nxp.com/t5/i-MX-Processors/Lower-CPU-frequency-on-imx8mq/m-p/909502
Thanks,Josh
thank you very much. I got it
I find a way to lower frequency :
cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/cpuinfo_cur_freq
cpufreq-set -f 800000
Hi Peter,
I recently went through the process of specing out a MaaXBoard fan solution that will mount directly to the heatsink on the MaaXBoard and MaaXBoard Mini. This fan will be powered by the 5V available on the raspberry compatible 40 pin header.
In case you wanted to go down this route and run at the higher CPU frequencies i figured i would share!
Check out this fan catalog from Sunon - https://www.sunon.com/eu/MANAGE/Docs/PRODUCT/299/367/Sunon%20DC%20Brushless%20Fan%20&%20Blower_(240-E).pdf
All the 25mm x 25mm fan solutions are mechanically compatible with the MaaXBoard heatsink. They offer three different depth sizes (6mm/10mm/15mm solutions).
Just make sure you pick a 5V solution as a few of these operate at 12V. In particular the MF25100v2-1000u-a99 solution would probably be a good starting point.

hi Joshua
Thank you very much.
Maybe we will use a big fan in our whole system only for the maaxboard microprocessor.
now my colleagues are testing. I am waiting for the final decision.
