I actually bought two thermostats for that configuration, but it precludes the interval when outside is above the "certain level" (say 70 degrees F), but still cooler than inside the house (say 78 degrees).
The Germans have a saying that a good German is like a stack of plywood in that it can be made into anything. A bin of op-amps is like a good German, or something, analogies tend to confuse me.
