Beaglebone black working with BB-view and emmc disabled

Hi,

I am using BBB C revision and BB-view 4" LCD screen and boot from Micro SD. It works well now.

I want to disable the emmc to use the pins as GPIO, so I edit the uEnv.txt as following

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

uname_r=4.1.15-ti-rt-r43
#uuid=
dtb=am335x-boneblack-bbview-lcd4.dtb

##BeagleBone Black/Green dtb's for v4.1.x (BeagleBone White just works..)

##BeagleBone Black: HDMI (Audio/Video) disabled:
#dtb=am335x-boneblack-emmc-overlay.dtb

##BeagleBone Black: eMMC disabled:
dtb=am335x-boneblack-hdmi-overlay.dtb

##BeagleBone Black: HDMI Audio/eMMC disabled:
#dtb=am335x-boneblack-nhdmi-overlay.dtb

##BeagleBone Black: HDMI (Audio/Video)/eMMC disabled:
#dtb=am335x-boneblack-overlay.dtb

##BeagleBone Black: wl1835
#dtb=am335x-boneblack-wl1835mod.dtb

##BeagleBone Green: eMMC disabled
#dtb=am335x-bonegreen-overlay.dtb

cmdline=coherent_pool=1M quiet cape_universal=enable

#In the event of edid real failures, uncomment this next line:
#cmdline=coherent_pool=1M quiet cape_universal=enable video=HDMI-A-1:1024x768@60e

##Example v3.8.x
#cape_disable=capemgr.disable_partno=
#cape_enable=capemgr.enable_partno=

##Example v4.1.x
#cape_disable=bone_capemgr.disable_partno=
#cape_enable=bone_capemgr.enable_partno=

##Disable HDMI/eMMC (v3.8.x)
#cape_disable=capemgr.disable_partno=BB-BONELT-HDMI,BB-BONELT-HDMIN,BB-BONE-EMMC-2G

##Disable HDMI (v3.8.x)
#cape_disable=capemgr.disable_partno=BB-BONELT-HDMI,BB-BONELT-HDMIN

##Disable eMMC (v3.8.x)
#cape_disable=capemgr.disable_partno=BB-BONE-EMMC-2G

##Audio Cape (needs HDMI Audio disabled) (v3.8.x)
#cape_disable=capemgr.disable_partno=BB-BONELT-HDMI
#cape_enable=capemgr.enable_partno=BB-BONE-AUDI-02

##enable Generic eMMC Flasher:
##make sure, these tools are installed: dosfstools rsync
#cmdline=init=/opt/scripts/tools/eMMC/init-eMMC-flasher-v3.sh

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

after rebooting the beaglebone, the LCD can not light up.

Is there anyone has similar problem ?

If anyone can offer useful information will be appreciated.

Thank you!

    Hi Qiu,

    I can't tell if it is a continuation of the previous line or not due to formatting (ideally use 'syntax highlighting' from the editor menu when typing a discussion/question), but is the HDMI and BBView enabled in that file? The BBView user documentation does not mention disabling the HDMI.

    https://www.element14.com/community/servlet/JiveServlet/previewBody/65082-102-5-294046/BB%20VIEW%20User%20Manual%20V3.pd…

    As I understand, the HDMI and the BBView share the same signals (the same lines are used to pass pixel data into the HDMI framer on the BBB circuit board), so the dtb for the HDMI may still need to be enabled.

    This is a guess, I don't have a BBView.

    Also, isn't the eMMC more reliable than SD, I was wondering why you wanted to disable it.

    Hi Qiu,

    Does it boot if you unplug the board? The boot pins may be being pulled high or low.

    (This is just a guess).

    Hi Qiu,

    I mean unplug the BBView cape (and any other cape).

    It is unclear, is the display not functioning but the board is booting up successfully,

    or the display is not functioning because the board is not booting up successfully.

    If you have a USB UART then you could plug it into the header pins at J1 on the BBB, to see on a terminal the output during boot-up, to see where it gets stuck.
