BB Blue Pan Tilt Servo Lipo Battery Test

Here I am testing the operation of micro servos with the BB Blue under  the power of a 1600mah Lipo battery.

    Interesting. Are you going to add some loading to the servo to see how that changes the power needs? DAB

    This Pan Tilt  module was borrowed from my Pimoroni Pi Pan Tilt Hat. It happens to use the servos the BB Blue is capable of driving without an alternate power source.

     

    The first test was with the BB Blue powered by 12V 2.5A Power Supply that is only meant to charge the lipo. The BB Blue struggled to drive the servo without the lipo.

     

    In this test, the BB Blue is being powered by the Lipo Battery. Very smooth operation with these very low quality servos that came installed on the pan tilt module. I need to purchase some high torque metal gear servos.

     

    The Battery had not yet arrived when the first servo test was performed.

     

    This Pan Tilt module was only used to test the BB Blue's servo driving abilities. It has been removed and reattached to the Pimoroni Hat. If I had a camera that was compatible with the BB Blue, I might have considered purchasing another Pan Tilt module for the BB Blue (it is available for purchase without the Pimoroni Hat)

     

    There will be a steering servo controlled by the BB Blue in my Road Test Vehicle. Integration of the steering servo with the recycled steering assembly of the RTV will be a challenge.

     

    Thankfully the recycled motor and gearbox are easier to integrate into the RTV. All that is needed are the 2-pin JST-ZH connections.

     

    Dependent on how well the BB Blue performs in these initial tests, will determine if this controller is up to the challenges planned for next year.
