First steps with Beaglebone Black

I have got the BB Black for a while but never got time to get started. It is different from Raspberry Pi in some sense.

The thing which I liked is that it can boot from an onboard emmc memory chip. This means you do not need to install OS on

fragile SD cards.

It comes with the installed OS when purchased. So, just plugging it via the USB cable supplied with it will start the boot process.

The default username and password is the following

username:debian

password:temppwd

After the power on BB Black will appear as a new drive on PC.

In Chrome or Mozzila enter the IP 192.168.7.2 to get access to the board.

One can get access to the command prompt of the board the via serial or ssh protocols

the baud rate of 115200 and with /dev/tty**** (your_device).

I've also got a Beaglebone Black that I haven’t used for a while. It got displaced when I started using the wireless Raspberry Pi’s. Seems that it was a long time ago... I didn’t have a 3D printer back…

embeddedguy I look forward to your projects. Like you and ralphjy , my BBB sits in its box. I bought a couple of capes for it, but I can't remember what. So many great ideas... As you stated, I like that…

    Thanks, Mike for your comments.

I always find a way to use the stuff which I have with me in some project at home. Even though it is a small capacitor or something.

    Hi,

The same thing was with me. Hence, I thought of giving it a try. Indeed it is a different experience than Raspberry. It also takes some more time than Raspberry.

I thought of using 32 SD card despite it already has emmc with OS installed. It is not enough to download and install large packages like over 250MB. Making 3D printed box will be really worth

as you might use it occasionally.

Also, I noticed that it is more for things like creating robots running motors, industrial projects etc.

I didn’t have a 3D printer back then - it might be fun to resurrect it and print a case for it and the display.
