What are the differences between BBB and BBB industrial?

Hi everyone,

what are the differences between the beaglebone black and beaglebone black industrial?

I have found another user asking this question, here, at element14, but he did not receive any answer.

Reading around the web and BBB industrial manual, it seems to me that the main and only difference is the Sitara processor version, which can operate from -40 to +85. Is it right?

All the best,

Lorenzo

    Hi Lorenzo,

There is a BeagleBone Black Industrial reference manual which explains it.

It operates at -40 to 85 deg C, and is hardware and software compatible with the original BeagleBone Black.

(To achieve that temp range I think it cannot be ruled out that other parts may have been improved such as the crystals).

Also, it has a transparent conformal coating, so it should survive longer in industrial environments too.

    Hi Shabaz,

thank you for your reply! :-)

Hence, the components, PCB, etc. are the same, except for the processor version and the coating. Am I right?

    All the best,

    Lorenzo

P.S. I did not read your sentence between the parenthesis, sorry. Do you know if there is any information about the component changed, other than the processor?

    Hi Lorenzo,

Unfortunately I've not been able to find that information, but we can be fairly certain that there must have been some tightening up of additional components, because the original BBB had (for example) an option of one of three crystals for component Y2 according to original BoM, and the first one (7A-24.000MAAJ-T ) isn't spec'd for the industrial range.

However we wouldn't have known the exact part in the original BeagleBone Black boards either, since there was a choice of three crystals for Y2 (just looking at Y2 as an example).

    Hi Shabaz,

    roger that, thank you! ;-)

Maybe, someday there will be a complete list of differences in the manual or in the board webpage.
