What can I do if my beaglebone black is no longer recognized by computer? It worked fine until I added power to the attached cramps board. When I power up, the power LED flashes blue and then nothing else seems to happen.

That implies a bad SD card or the eMMC is bad... I would try to download an image from the Beaglebone.org site on SD card.
Jhammondgo , Did this help?
Yes. I flashed another SD card and installed. Since it failed, I purchased another Beagleboard black. I’mn A bit hesitant at this point tp power it up. I have changed the Pololu boards that plug into the Cramps Board. I purchased a 47 mfd capacitor to place near the Cramps motor power input hoping that it will solve the power up problem.
Jhammondgo , from personal experience in bricking BeagleBone Blacks I would make sure that the pin setup is correct for the board and that the add-on board is correcting to the right pins, it's entirely possible to brick a BeagleBone when it's not up to date (patched with latest kernel, and latest debian) and then plugging in an add-on board for it not to have the right pinmux setup and also have a add-on board power up the wrong pins, since the BeagleBone pins are not 5v tolerant.
