Kit Overview
The CC1120CC1120 development kit (CC1120DKCC1120DK) provides a complete hardware performance testing and software development platform for TI's Sub-1 GHz Performance Line devices. The development kit comes with a pre-programmed packet error rate test. RF range and robustness can be tested with different RF settings, and power consumption can be measured easily.
The kit includes the SmartRF Transceiver Evaluation board (TrxEB), which has a number of useful features for development of prototype software, as well as USB connectivity making it possible to connect the board to a PC and control the radio from SmartRF Studio. In short, the TrxEB includes MSP430F5438MSP430F5438 MCU, USB interface, 128 x 64 dot matrix LCD, 3 axis digital accelerometer, and Ambient light sensor.
The SmartRF TrxEB acts as the motherboard in several evaluation modules for low power RF ICs. An Evaluation Module is a small RF module with RF chip, balun, matching filter, antenna, and I/O connectors. The modules can be plugged into the SmartRF TrxEB which lets the PC take direct control of the RF device on the EM over the USB interface. This CC1120DKCC1120DK kit contains 2 evaluation module Kits for 868MHz - 915MHz (CC1120EMK-868-915CC1120EMK-868-915). Additionald Evaluation Module Kits shown in below table can be purchased separately to support other frequencies.
The CC1120CC1120 is a fully integrated single-chip radio transceiver designed for high performance at low power and low voltage operation in cost effective wireless systems. All filters are integrated, removing the need for costly external SAW and IF filters. The device is mainly intended for the ISM (Industrial, Scientific and Medical) and SRD (Short Range Device) frequency bands at 164-192 MHz, 410-480 MHz and 820-960 MHz.
Key Applications: Narrowband ultra low power wireless systems with channel spacing down to 12.5 kHz, 170 / 315/ 433 / 868 / 915 / 950 MHz ISM/SRD band, Wireless Metering and Wireless Smart Grid (AMR and AMI), IEEE 802.15.4g systems, Home and building automation, Wireless alarm and security systems, Industrial monitoring and control, Wireless healthcare applications, Wireless sensor networks and Active RFID, Private mobile radio | |||||||||||||

Software Tools
SmartRF Studio
SmartRF Studio is a Windows application that can be used to evaluate and configure Low Power RF-ICs from Texas Instruments. The application will help designers of RF systems to easily evaluate the RF-ICs at an early stage in the design process. It is especially useful for generation of configuration register values, for practical testing of the RF system and for finding optimized external component values. SmartRF Studio can be used both as a standalone application or together with applicable evaluation boards that are shipped in the RF-IC development kits.
