Kit Overview

 

The Texas Instruments ADS1118EVMADS1118EVM is a complete solution for evaluation of the ADS1118ADS1118 Ultra-Small, Low Power,Precision 16 Bit Analog to Digital Converter. Power and I/O are provided via USB connection and a simple software interface. Inputs for a thermocouple are provided on board, plus two additional uncommitted inputs are available. This evaluation module (EVM) allows evaluation of all aspects of the ADS1118IDGSTADS1118IDGST, a 16-bit, delta-sigma analog-to-digital converter (ADC)

 

ADS1118ADS1118 16-Bit ADC with Integrated MUX, PGA, Temperature Sensor, Oscillator, and Reference:

  • The ADS1118IDGSTADS1118IDGST is a precision ADC.
  • It features onboard reference and oscillator, as well as 16 bits of resolution.
  • The ADS1118IDGSTADS1118IDGST can perform up to 860 samples per second (SPS) and has an onboard programmable gain amplifier (PGA) that allows input ranges from ±256 mV to ±6.144 V.
  • It also contains an input multiplexer that allows each input to be used with reference to ground, or two differential inputs.
  • The ADS1118IDGSTADS1118IDGST can perform conversions at rates up to 860 samples per second (SPS).
  • An onboard programmable gain amplifier (PGA) is available on the ADS1118IDGSTADS1118IDGST that offers input ranges from the supply to as low as ±256mV. This range allows both large and small signals to be measured with high resolution.
  • The ADS1118IDGSTADS1118IDGST also features an input multiplexer (MUX) that provides two differential or four single-ended inputs.
  • The ADS1118IDGSTADS1118IDGST can also function as a high-accuracy temperature sensor. This temperature sensor can be used for system-level temperature monitoring or cold junction compensation for thermocouples.
  • The ADS1118IDGSTADS1118IDGST operates either in continuous conversion mode or a single-shot mode that automatically powers down after a conversion. Single-shot mode significantly reduces current consumption during idle periods. The ADS1118 is specified from –40°C to +125°C.
