Kit Overview
The Texas Instruments TMDSPLCKIT-V3TMDSPLCKIT-V3 C2000 Power Line Modem Developer's Kit enables easy development of software based Power Line Communication (PLC) modems. The kit includes two PLC modems based on the C2000 TMS320F28069TMS320F28069 controlCARD and TI's advanced PLC analog front end AFE031. The included PLC SUITE software supports several communication techniques, including OFDM (PRIME/G3 and FlexOFDM) and SFSK. The kit includes onboard USB JTAG emulation and Code Composer Studio.

Software Tools
The TMDSPLCKIT-V3TMDSPLCKIT-V3 is configured with the G3 PLC firmware. G3 was designed to enable PLC signals to pass through the low-voltage transformer and out to the medium-voltage line. This enables the concentrator to be placed where it can aggregate data from substantially more locations, thus improving the cost effectiveness of connecting the home/business with the utility company. In order to use the PRIME or FlexOFDM operational modes, the F28069 control card will need to be reprogrammed with the appropriate SW. Details on how to reprogram the control card can be found in the TMDSPLCKIT-V3 User Guide.
With the TMDSPLCKIT-V3TMDSPLCKIT-V3 evaluation kit, TI provides a Zero-Configuration GUI Tool, which enables developers to transmit data between nodes without having to define any configuration parameters. This substantially simplifies the evaluation process, especially for developers not as familiar with the implementation details of PLC. The tool also serves to accelerate product development by supporting an expert mode in which developers can fine-tune a channel’s configuration to collect more data about the channel. This provides important information about a channel’s characteristics that are required to optimize an implementation for a particular market (Figure 2 below). Texas Instruments uses the same zero-configuration GUI for customer field tests around the world, but allows customers to access and develop with this technology. You may download this tool here.
