C5000Tm Low-Power DSPs

image

The C5000 platform includes a range of low power 16-bit DSPs with performance up to 300MHz (600 MIPs). Low power consumption (standby power: 0.15mW, active power with 75% dual-MAC and 25% add: 0.15mW/MHz) extends battery life. High peripheral integration and large on-chip memory reduces overall system cost. Ideal for portable devices in audio, voice, communications, medical, security and industrial applications.

TMS320C54x 16-bit fixed point DSP, 5 stage pipeline with in-order-execution of opcodes, parallel load/store on arithmetic operations, multiply accumulate and other DSP enhancements. Internal multi-port memory. The C54x family became a popular choice for 2G mobile phone in the late 1990s, but following the need to offload many HID and display functions, an additional ARM7 was used, later leading to the creation of the OMAP product line.

TMS320C55x generation - fixed point, runs C54x code but adds more internal parallelism (another ALU, dual MAC, more memory bandwidth) and registers, while supporting much lower power operation.

C5000 DSP Applications

  • Fingerprint Biometrics
  • Pulse Oximetry
  • Active Noise Cancellation (ANC)
  • Audio Dock: Portable
  • Software Defined Radio
  • Digital Multimeter: Bench / System
