Virginia Tech Formula SAE Team
VT Formula SAE is a student-led team that challenges Virginia Tech engineering students to design and fabricate a Formula 1 style race car from initial
concept to reality. Upon completion of the car, the team participates in a formal competition that judges the design and performance of the race car.
Virginia Tech’s Formula SAE team draws some of the best and brightest engineers and has consistently been a top contender at competition. The team
consists of students from multiple disciplines including Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, and Computer Engineering as well as Marketing majors.
Cadsoft’s PCB Design Software, EAGLE, is a great advantage to the Electrical portion of the vehicle when designing the
on-board electronics of the vehicle. The team uses EAGLE to design their Power Distribution Module and their Power Management Module. By designing printed circuit
boards with Eagle, the team is able to create reliable and high quality on-board electronics while learning a software that will be useful in their future careers.
“I am extremely grateful for the CadSoft sponsorship because it gives me the chance to fully
experience Eagle, an industry standard program for PCB Design. The software is easy enough to pick up, but powerful enough to create the complex demands of my board”
– Brian Kwan, Electronics Lead
