Need curved rectangular through-hole pad in Eagle

bino
bino over 4 years ago

Hello

I need to create a rectangular through-hole pad with a slightly curved corner. For SMD pads there is an option available for curving the corners. But for rectangular through-hole pad their no option for curving the corner.

Please help me out how to curve the corners of rectangular through-hole pads.

Please find the attached img. for a better understanding of the requirement.(In image blue coloured is the drill and green is copper)

Thanks!

It probably violates rule checks, but could you just place a rounded SMD pad on top of a smaller square through-hole pad?

Understood, but his picture shows a round through hole with a rounded square copper pad.

Actually what you need the curves for?

    Please name the device.

IMHO there is no possibility in eagle except you make it a device.

If its to avoid a high voltage corona effect then use round pads.

Just so you are aware, Eagle can produce what you are after but not with

    a simple select and click.

My knowledge of Eagle stops at v7.7 so later versions may provide the

    feature you are after.

It's simple process but lengthy and needs an understanding of how the

DRC rules affect/change the size of the pads when that package appears

    on the board.

You need to create the desired package in the library and yet, there,

the pads are still not what you want. Within that package you need to

create custom pads (known in the HELP as 'Arbitrary Pad Shapes')

Essentially you lay down a pad in the package editor and place a polygon

over it, of the desired shape. Choosing the wire width of the polygon

defines the radius of the corners.

In the package editor you would set the pad size (Don't use Auto). Doing

that does not guarantee the pad will not grow once on the board editor.

The change of size is controlled by the DRC rules you have chosen. They

need to be selected with consideration of the scale of your design.

I'll leave it there. I suspect you will accept square corners.

    All the best

    Warren
