Can't enter values in schematic

Former Member
Former Member over 15 years ago

I have created several parts but I can't enter the values on the schematic.

I have >VALUE on the Value layer but on the schematic it displays the device

name.

If  I go to the info page, the device setting is Greyed out.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks Wallace

The devices have set "VALUE OFF" in their definition (in the library),

that means you can't change their value.

There is a switch in eaglerc.usr that allows overriding this setting.

I can't seem to find the page with the switch.

    I don't have a eaglerc.usr file either ?

    Suggestions please.

    Thanks Wallace.

Ensure you understand the section in the manual entitled "Definition of a

    Simple Resistor" (Chapter 8.1, possibly)

It speaks of your situation where the Device Name is displayed in the Value

    field.

Again in the manual, it describes how to locate the eaglerc.usr file. It's

location will depend on how you have set up  your computing environment

The switches in the eaglerc.usr file are described in the manual section

"Options for Experts in eaglerc"(Chapter 10.6,  possibly)

    A few things

It would help if the manual was accessed from the package. I have only just

found it in the directory !!!

I  have checked my settings and the >VALUE and  the layers seem to be

correct and the same as other symbols in the library.

I cannot find eaglerc.usr. I've search my whole machine.

Do I have to change the switch manually in the USR file when and if  I find

    it ?

    Thanks Wallace

    Something funny here.

If I search documents and settings for eaglerc.usr - No files found.

If I search Cadsoft, it finds the file.

I had subdirectories and system selected. Looks like I needed to add Hidden

as Cadsoft must be hidden directory.

    Cheers Wallace

No - the whole "application data" tree is hidden.

However, besides spending so much time looking for eaglerc.usr you'd

eventually better correct the libraries in question and set VALUE to ON

    in the particular device(s)...

P.S. Please do not top-post (placing your answer /above/ the quote) -

this makes a thread hard to follow. Thanks.
