Package editor

Former Member

Hello,

I've started working with Eagle for about 3 weeks now and love the

accessibility of this software!

Can somebody tell me if there is a possibility to make a cutout (circle) in

a polygon in the package editor?

I've tried it by creating a circle on layer 42 (bRestrict) without any

result.

    Hi

You need to make the hole part of the polygon edge.

Attached is a library/package that shows the steps.

Before you start set the 'Alternate Grid' to finest.

I've drawn on layer 34 for clarity

Set the wire width to something greater than your DRC will require. 8mil

    is used here

Some comments relating to the numbering of the steps.

    (1)

    (a) Draw a circle at the desired point for guidance, It will be removed

later. Here it has width(8 mil) but you can use a zero width circle

(filled) and work to it's edge if the circle diameter is critical.

    (b) Draw a polygon edge for each portion of the sections that approach

the circle, like the tent shape in step 1.

(c)Don't let two straight sections become aligned or the edges may/will

become one and  you will have to split them again.

    (3)

To bend that straight line to an arc, select MOVE, Hold down CTL and

click in the middle of the straight line and drag to match the shape of

the guiding circle. It will jump using the standard grid so hold down

the ALT key to activate the alternate grid.

    (7)

As you tidy up the the final edges, don't let them cross or be exactly

upon one another. the polygon will be invalid. Keep the centres of the

wires slightly apart and yet the wires are still overlapping

    HTH
