Surface mount library recommendations

I've been making my own parts up till now for my projects so I guess I'll

continue. I find the package creation painstaking (reading the manual every

5 minutes) and I was hoping that there would be up to date SMD lib's in use

these days.

Hi,

My advise is;

Create a new library, add the packages that suits your needs to the new package that you have already created. Create a new schematics, load your new library, place the devices in the library in to the schemtaics. Later switch to the pcb, locate the parts on the suitable places on the board dimesion area and pritn it. Finally, check you components if they match with the ones you have printed.

This does maybe seem a bit complicated, but this is Ok if you don't want to deal with creation of new devices from the datasheets and want to be sure if the library parts are OK with the ones you have.

The best way, for sure, is to create yours from datasheets. Mostly eagle libraries have no problem, but you never want to be disappointed to see a part is not OK with the one you have after the board was fabricated.

Also, you can ask your board assembly house what landpatterns they have good

experience with (like I did for 0201 packages, where I got away with much

more compact pattern than IPC suggests).

Draw you onwn one or use the standars 0603, 1206 or simmilar footprints. For strange footprints it is best to make your own footprint.

Eagle does not guarantee for its libraries and no one else will do.

So why not moving the eagle devices into your own library and modify

them to suit you? That is easy and fast to do. And if they don't fit you

know at least whom to kick...
