You are right Chuck
The creator of this thread jumped into the
There was a time in my distant past (30 years perhaps) when I could
read, write and speak French fluently. After a couple of visits to
Germany and having a 2-week meaningful relationship with a young lady
over there, I was able to speak broken German, but was never really
fluent in it. In the southern part of the U.S., Spanish is becoming
increasingly important, of which I had 5 years in school but have never
had to use it since. I wound up marrying a young lady from Thailand
about 20 years ago and have visited that country once. So while it
would be nice to become fluent in all these languages, I really don't
have a day-in day-out need for it.
Like any talent (including engineering), language skills will
deteriorate if not used frequently.
The shortcoming is admittedly mine.
Like I said... Thank goodness for translate.google.com.
Enjoy,
