Howdy,
I've been slowly creating my own library, but I notice some parts when used act differently than others. Only for their "value" and "name" in the schematic capture.
For example, the capacitor symbol that I use (copy and pasted from Sparkfun's library) has for the value, "CAPSMD" (I called the device name CAPSMD). Then when I go to change the value, it says, "part 'name' has no user definable value. Do you want to change it anyway?". I'll click yes and change it to which ever value I want. This isn't a big deal as I will be changing the values any way, but it's more annoying than anything else. Any advice on how I can change this?
I went in and checked the symbol in my library, for example the capacitor and the ">VALUE" is on the values layer (layer 96). I even deleted >VALUE and re-did it. I even created a new device called "CAP", added my symbol and when I go to use it, the value is the name of the device. For this example, the value is "CAP".
Also, how do I change the names of my components. For example, it seems like the default is U$1, U$2, etc etc when you use more than one of the same component in the schematic caputure window. How do I get my library set up to show for example, a "U" for my ICs, an "R" for my resistors, a "C" for capacitors...without having the "$" symbol in it? And of course the proper number, i.e., C1, C2, C3, etc etc.
I'm a bit anal on my library up keep and just wish to have it all nice and neat. Plus my PCBs look hidious when it shows U$1, U$2, R$1, R$2...Of course I can change the names, but that is just a waste to manually do it.
In my library, I chacked out the device section and tried to fiddle with that to correct both of my issues that I stated (name issues and value issues), but I can't seem to resolve the issue.
thanks in advance for your adivce.
