I see that CadSoft are running a "Write a ULP" competition
The prize is "win a 1-year license of EAGLE Professional V6"
Hmmm.

it is sort of funny... a huge company like Premier Farnell giving away a
price which they take back a year later.

What could be less funny though, is that this could mean a new
licensing scheme for V6. I don't think it's possible right now to have a
time limited license.
The reason I abanded my old PCB software was exactly for that reason:
from one version to the next they changed licensing to a subscription
model: renew every year or it would stop working. No thanks.
As far as I know there's nothing to indicate that, so maybe it's just a
one time thing for the contest. Gave me a little scare...

Hi Richard,
We've received requests for lower-cost versions of the program. Many
users just wanted to make a couple of boards, or they were starting up
and were hoping to buy a perpetual license once they made some money.
With that in mind the option of a 1-year license came into existence.
This is only an alternative for users that may need such a license and
for giveaways like these, we have no plans to use a subscription model
and the perpetual licensing scheme is here to stay.
Sorry for the scare.
Best Regards,
Jorge Garcia
