Drop button :-(

Former Member

Inside the add componentt menu, WHAT IN THE HECK WERE YOU THINKING WHEN YOU PUT THE DROP BUTTON THERE?  First of all, any normal user who's not completly high on bath salts would think "drop" would drop the component onto the schematic. BUT NO, it drops a subset of the library from the database obviously.  I mean "remove" takes a few too many characters to fit in the button nicely or something.  Then it corrupts the library so when I "use" the library again, I get an error message and can't use those components any more.

Drop means that the library file will be dropped from the list

of libraries in the dialog. Nothing happens to the library file

itself if you "drop" it. It is not deleted, nor is it saved.

It is no longer in use or better said not available forthe ADD

command. That's it. It does not corrupt the library.

I don't know what happened with your library..... You could send it

to me, then we can try to get out.

Yes. It DOES mean that. Expert users know that. But for NEW users, the

word DROP means something completely different, and it's quite

definitely NOT the intuitive word to use for THAT function. EAGLE is

full of strange anachronistic words that either don't mean a thing at

all, or even mean a completely DIFFERENT thing (e.g., the command WIRE

should NOT be used for wiring components - aaargh!).

When brushing up EAGLE's GUI, CadSoft should use better words for things

    - you see that users can get quite frustrated in their work due to bad

    wording...

See also my post 'EAGLE GUI (2): Unintelligible menus' in

'eagle.suggest.eng', which is not only valid for menus, but also for

    dialogs etc.

Drop? That is one of the most UN-intuitive features of Eagle. Somebody might

think that it would drop the listed component into the schematic, but no

that's not what happens at all.

Just try to drop that component into your project and see what happens. It's

    very funny.

brett and joesph are right the word "DROP" on that dialog should be if anything drop component to schematic...

there shouldnt be ANY option to DROP a lib in that dialog...

a new dialog should be made for ADDING and DROPPING libraries

(the way its down now is bad anyway, with a file open dialog)

    unitutive

that dialog is for ADDING parts to sheet

    my 2 cents

Well, it's just one of those little Cadsoft things: you spent 10 years

trying to avoid clicking on that button by accident, while during that

entire period you've got no idea whatsoever what it is doing there or why

    it is named that way.

It adds to the nerdy charm of the program, I guess..

Maybe, when Klaus has fully recovered from working on the 'CUT & COPY'

soap, he can take on this one?

    Hi Richard,

I don't have any problem wit that button, but what annoys me much is the fact, that the munh more usefull button, USE, is missing.  I remember it was in early versions (2.x, perhaps 3.x) and then it disappeared. I hoped in 6.0 it would appear, but it didn't - pity...
