Junk extra layers - how to remove them?

Former Member
Former Member over 13 years ago

I appear to have picked up some junk (probably in a 'foreign' project)

that has added extra layers (not the standard ones) to all new projects.

Is there a way of:

a: cleaning them so that they don't appear in any new projects?

b: removing them from all existing projects?

Many thanks,

Bob von Knobloch

Those come usually from libraries. Check them too.

Command: "set used_layers all" to display all layers.

At the display menue mark and delete them (if the layer is empty).

You did not mention your eagle version. With version 5.x you cannot

delete internal layers (below 100). With the latest 5.12 you can and

    with version 6.x

Thanks Joern, I am aware of this. My problem is several hundred files

that need cleaning, I don't want to do each one by hand.

Must I 'clean' each entry in my user libs?

I don't know where this info is stored, especially as it prpagates into

    new projects.

    I am running 5.11 btw.

    Many thanks,

    Bob

I modify old boards very often and sometimes  the clients supply their

libraries and ask me to update them with the parts added.

Once I wanted to see all layers and was shocked, because all the layers

between 52 and 91 were active but empty. Before vers. 5.12 one could not

    remove the "inner" layers.

The problem is, that if one part in a library is spoiled, the whole

    library is.

Since that time the first thing is "set used_layers all, display".

It must be done separately for sheet and board / symbol and package.

I did some libraries by exporting them as .scr, go over it with a text

editor and import the .scr into a new library.

You can open a library package set all layers , display them and delete

if necessary. Same with symbol. That way may be faster. I don't know how

    good you are creating ulps/scripts.

Since the library parts are stored in .sch/.brd you must perform a

library update to clean your projects.

Yes, I've determined that the libraries are easy to clean. At least new

projects are now OK. I'll clean the old projects as the need arises to

    edit them.

    Many thanks Joern,
