EDWin import

autodeskguest
autodeskguest over 17 years ago

Someone's asked me to etch a board using an EDWin design,

would it be possible to import this in eagle somehow? (just the pcb layout)

Or is it gerber's thats the deal here? (basically all I need is being able to

plot the layout to the printer using drafting film)

I've found gerbers to be overly complicated for this simple task

and there's always been something to mess it up....

I you are going to etch a board at home, then the board needs to be

printed 1:1 using a laser printer.  This works well for the

press-and-peel or iron-on methods.  A Gerber is needed if you want a PCB

fabricator (PCB house) to make a board.  Some PCB fabs offer a low-cost

service for a double sided plated through board with no solder mask and

    no silk-screen.

Sorry, I don't know about EDWin, and don't want to know.

Can you not get the edwin user to either

    1. print out the appropriate layers and give you the acetate/tracing paper.

    2. get them to print to pdf as 1:1 of the required layers, verify it and

    then give you the pdfs

    cheers

    David

As has already been mentioned, you could print to PDF as 1:1.  But if they

have gerbers then why not just use a gerber viewer to load them and then

print them 1:1 on a laser printer.  That is what I would try to do first.

Gerber is intended to keep dimension information so it can be trusted to do

that.  PDF is for display purposes, I'm not sure I'd trust it nearly as

    much.

    Cheers,

    James.
